Charlotte Crime Map: Neighbourhood Research & Living Decisions

Charlotte’s incident feed contains more than confirmed crimes. Before using a map to choose a stay or home, understand what the reports include and check the exact location against your daily travel. These details matter more than an unexplained safest-neighbourhood list.

Use CMPD’s current CrimeMapper

CMPD’s official public-information page links to CrimeMapper and its open-data portal. Start there to avoid relying on an old third-party map. Check the selected time window, address and coverage before reading a cluster.

A CMPD patrol division or Neighborhood Profile Area is a data geography. It does not necessarily match a property listing’s neighbourhood name. Keep the unit consistent when checking two locations.

Why counting every CMPD report would be misleading

CMPD’s dataset documentation explicitly includes both criminal and non-criminal reports. It says to exclude 800-series non-criminal codes from criminal-incident analysis, and notes that the data includes reports later classed as unfounded.

The feed assigns the highest offence to a report using a hierarchy. A report count therefore is not automatically the count of every offence or every victim. These rules prevent a direct comparison with a city that publishes all offences within each incident.

Compare a Charlotte stay with the CATS journey

CATS provides trip-planning, bus, rail and other rider resources. Check the actual property address against your arrival point and main destinations. A nearby rail stop only solves part of the journey.

Use the same departure and return times for both accommodation options. Compare transfers, waiting and the final walk; confirm the entrance and reception arrangements with the property. Do not infer a safety rating from transit coverage.

Charlotte vs Atlanta for living: compare the daily routine

For a move, compare the door-to-door commute, building access and transport fallback for two real homes. Repeat at your work hours and for weekend errands. A general claim that one city is quieter does not answer those questions.

Use local incident data for local questions, not a raw cross-city ranking. We have not harmonised the two cities’ reporting units or verified comparative housing costs. The Atlanta guide links to APD and MARTA so you can apply the same practical checks there.

Questions about Charlotte

Is every point in Charlotte’s incident feed a crime?

No. CMPD says the feed includes non-criminal reports and unfounded cases. Its 800-series non-criminal codes must be excluded when analysing criminal incidents; a simple count of all records would misrepresent the data.

Does Safrom rank the safest Charlotte neighbourhoods?

No reviewed neighbourhood score is available. The official map provides reporting context. It does not certify an individual property, and Safrom has not converted these reports into a visitor-risk ranking.
