Philadelphia Crime Map: Local Evidence for Stays & Moving

Philadelphia has an official incident-data directory and a police mapping application. They can help you investigate a proposed location, but a cluster of reports is not a prediction for a visitor. Combine a consistent map query with the route you will actually use.

Where to find Philadelphia’s official crime map

OpenDataPhilly’s PPD directory links to the police mapping application, described as allowing recent incidents to be viewed around an address. It also lists annual datasets from 2006 onward. Use the mapping link for a local check; a particular annual download has a different time scope.

The directory labels the data as updated daily, but the City supplies it without a warranty of accuracy. The linked metadata and licence pages redirected to the general metadata catalogue during this review. Safrom therefore has not republished a new incident dataset or claimed a verified completeness rate.

  1. Open the PPD directory below and follow its Crime Maps and Stats Application link.
  2. Search the exact address and note the period and radius or area used by the application.
  3. Keep the same period, geography and categories when checking another address.
  4. Distinguish an incident location from the risk of a specific activity or building. Reporting and map coverage are incomplete measures of exposure.

Choose a stay around the actual itinerary

Before comparing neighbourhoods, list the addresses you will repeatedly visit. A property close to one attraction may still require a difficult return from another. Check the entire route, including the final walk to the entrance.

Use two candidate properties as the comparison unit. Ask each about late entry, reception and baggage storage. These are details the crime map cannot verify.

Check the SEPTA journey in both directions

SEPTA’s rider guide links to its trip planner, schedules and real-time map. Use these to distinguish an advertised nearby line from a service that actually fits your journey and travel date.

Enter your return time, check transfers and read service changes. Keep a fallback if the connection you need is unavailable. A line on a network map does not assess the safety of the walk to your accommodation.

For living in Philadelphia, compare repeated exposure

A relocation decision involves weekday journeys, building access and daily errands. Record those for each housing option before interpreting local reports. Look for patterns you can ask about, without converting every report near a busy destination into a resident or visitor crime rate.

Check whether the statistics concern the city, police coverage or a wider region. This guide has not verified neighbourhood population denominators, comparative rents or a safest-neighbourhood league table.

Questions about Philadelphia

Does a blank area on the Philadelphia crime map mean it is safe?

No. An empty result can depend on the selected dates, offence types, map coverage and reporting. Recheck the filters and use other local information before making a booking or housing decision.

Can I compare Philadelphia and Atlanta by counting map dots?

Not reliably. The tools can differ in offence selection, geographic coverage and the way reports are represented. Aligning dates alone does not create a comparable personal-risk measure.
