road_deaths_per_100k_person_years_shrunk · 2021-01-01/2024-12-31.

Coverage is Phuket province, all three districts (Mueang Phuket, Kathu including Patong, Thalang). Districts are large administrative areas, not beaches or hotel streets. Road deaths 2021-2024 (Buddhist Era 2564-2567) from the DDC Ministry of Public Health integrated three-database road-death records, assigned by accident district (acc_dist), or, when blank, by accident coordinates inside Phuket district boundaries. Many 2021-2023 Phuket records lack any accident location and are excluded (counts in provenance facts), so absolute rates are understated; only relative district rates are used. Denominator: WorldPop R2025A constrained 2024 population (100 m model estimate, includes non-registered residents but not short-stay tourists) summed in each district; four-year person-years. Rates per 100,000 per year are shrunk toward the Phuket rate with a Gamma-Poisson prior of 10 deaths. Only mobility varies locally; the citywide estimate and other dimensions use Thailand national research priors. No clearly licensed district flood-hazard layer was found for Phuket (JRC global maps exclude small islands; the Phuket DDPM 2025 village flood-event list is a single-year event log, not a hazard map), so disaster_and_environment keeps the national prior. District boundaries: geoBoundaries gbOpen THA ADM2 (Royal Thai Survey Department, OCHA ROAP; boundary year 2019), CC BY 3.0 IGO, generalized 20 m with less than 0.5% area change.

Before choosing accommodation

  1. Locate your intended stay on the map and check whether that area has evidence.
  2. Read what drives the local differences. A citywide score and an area estimate answer different questions.
  3. Check current local advice and your transport options separately. These estimates cannot assess a specific hotel, street or time of day.
