Local evidence is the ISPRA national 2020 P2 flood-hazard mosaic (v5.0), the approximately 100–200-year return-period scenario, which compiles the district authorities’ plans available in 2020. It is a historical structural exposure baseline, not the current legal PGRA, a tide forecast, or an acqua alta warning. Venice is protected by the MOSE mobile barriers (operational since 2020) and other works. The 2020 mosaic and this metric do not model MOSE operation, flood depth, building protection, or the probability that a visitor is harmed; mapped exposure is not a statement about current day-to-day flooding. District metric is the percentage of land in each of the six Istat 2021 municipalità intersecting mapped P2 polygons. Lagoon water (Istat 2021 census sections coded COD_ACQUE 70005, zero residents) is excluded from both the denominator and the map. Unmapped land is not classified as flood-free. Area calculated in UTM 33N before 8 m simplification. Only disaster_and_environment varies locally; all other dimensions retain explicitly labelled Italy national priors. Boundaries and land/water classification: Istat, CC BY 4.0. Aggregated and scored by Safrom; ISPRA and Istat do not endorse these estimates. The July 2025 licence document page 2 explicitly covers the 2020 flood mosaic. The citywide score uses Italy national priors. Local evidence adjusts only disaster_and_environment.

Before choosing accommodation

  1. Locate your intended stay on the map and check whether that area has evidence.
  2. Read what drives the local differences. A citywide score and an area estimate answer different questions.
  3. Check current local advice and your transport options separately. These estimates cannot assess a specific hotel, street or time of day.
